Daniele Incalcaterra has inherited from his father a land in Paraguay. Rather than selling it to the profoundly corrupt farming industry corporations that own all the land surrounding his property, he has decided to return it to its rightful owners, the Guarani Ñandevas. He believes that the 5000 hectares of Chaco virgin forestland - an ecosystem which is systematically being destroyed - must be protected from deforestation and turned into a nature reserve called “Arcadia” and a scientific institute dedicated to the study of the devastating effects of deforestation. The filmmaker’s good intentions of trying to symbolically repair the state’s abusive actions against the natives are going to be met with fraudulent bureaucracy, the personal financial interest of politicians and drug traffickers, but also with reproaches from the natives - making this film a masterpiece - for not having involved them the project. Daniele lets us witness his gradual journey of realising he should stop infantilising the natives and, instead, let them fight their own battles against corruption, even if it costs them their lives.
