Marco Piccarreda
In 1998 he graduated with a film editing diploma at the Television and Cinema School of Milan. After the diploma he has worked for several film production companies. In 2005 together with Vittorio Moroni he established the production and distribution company 50Notturno Ltd and he now works as producer, writer and editor. CittàGiardino is his debut as director.

The “CittaGiardino” centre for immigrants and refugees is about to close its doors. Only a few teenagers still live here, while they wait for a decision on whether they will be granted visas to allow them to temporarily settle in Italy, or at least to be transferred to another European country. These young people have travelled thousands of kilometres across the open sea in order to get here, in search of a place where their lives are no longer under constant threat. First and foremost, the documentary captures this time of waiting, while they are still in a seemingly idyllic sun-kissed and luxuriant setting. In turn, the protagonists harmoniously blend in with this scenery, as though they’ve always been a part of it: they listen to Western music, they pick up girls on the internet, they roll around playfully in the garden, they laugh, observe, or sometimes have conversations. Were we not to know that over this state of grace looms the threat of returning to various circles of hell, we could rest easy at the thought that we are watching a representation of heaven on earth.  (Andrei Rus)
